Business in Hawaii with Reg Baker - Woman Owned Business Success Story

Aloha!

Lorraine Minatoishi has done what most women cannot.  She is highly successful in a male dominated industry.  Learn how she did it in this week's Business in Hawaii with Reg Baker show.  Here is the link:

Time for tax planning.  Rule of thumb, which is even more important this year (tax rates expected to be going down next year), where you can, defer income to next year and accelerate your expenses.  There are ways this can be done, and the savings could be huge.  Talk with your tax preparer and act in December before you miss the opportunity and it's too late.

All the best and Aloha till next week!

Aloha!

What a fast-paced information packed session this was!

We touched on what a forensic audit is and why we need one for the Rail.  And the sooner the better!!  Otherwise we will continue to make the same mistakes over and over again.

Also discussed the foreign bank account reporting deadline (many need to file and don't even know it), the dreamer fiasco, infrastructure projects and the labor shortage (the last three are all related).

Business in Hawaii with Reg Baker

Aloha!

We have amazing talent and experience right here in Hawaii if we only take the time and look for it. Sometimes we get too caught up with what is happening on the mainland (which we have no control over) and we lose sight of what is happening right here in our own backyard (which we can control).

Ray Tsuchiyama has vast international experience and a global perspective. He is also a "local" having grown up in Kalihi and graduated from Farrington High School. His perspective is refreshing and valuable for Hawaii to move forward and address the numerous issues she faces today.

Take a few minutes and listen to what Ray has to say about Hawaii from a global perspective and a large dose of international experience.

Please see attached flyer for two Hawaii Chamber speaking engagements; one on Sept 28 (CFO Workshop) and the other on October 12 (Profitable Outsourcing).  Join us if you can.  Lots of very valuable information will be shared.

Reg Baker's Report from Washington DC

Aloha –

I just returned from spending a week in Washington DC.  Although Congress was on recess and many of the President's Senior Administrators were traveling with him in Texas due to Harvey, we were able to get a lot done during the SBA's Regulatory Fairness Board Meetings and Testimony's.

I was able to help coordinate The Grassroots Institute testimony on the harmful effects of the Jones Act by Keli'I Akina, President of Grassroots Institute and OHA Trustee.   I was also able to represent the four Liquor Commissions of Hawaii on the tax clearance issues they have been dealing with for several years (and got the issue resolved I might add).   Please see the link below for more details on a very successful Board meeting and updates on all the help the current administration will be offering to the small businesses nationwide.

Due to a technical issue, last week's Business in Hawaii with Reg Baker was not uploaded to YouTube.  This is being fixed and we should have the link within a day or two.  After it is uploaded, you will be able to find it by clicking this link (as well as over 100 previous Business in Hawaii Shows) –

Business in Hawaii with Reg Baker - Can an ASC solve out healthcare challenges?

Aloha –

I am writing this from Washington DC.  I am attending the US SBA Board of Directors meeting for Regulatory Fairness and preparing to offer testimony this afternoon on behalf of the Liquor Commissions in Hawaii (one for each county) on the challenges they were experiencing with the IRS.  I emphasize "were".  We filled the comment form stating the issue on July 25.  This form went from the DC offices of the SBA to the IRS Commissioner and back to Hawaii requesting a meeting in less than two weeks.  We had a series of phone calls and a meeting with the matter being resolved in about four weeks on August 21.  Truly amazing!!  The process does work and we can resolve federal regulatory issues using the SBA's Regulatory Fairness Board (I am a board member and Chair Region IX).

Now for ASC's – certainly a step in the right director for fixing our healthcare crisis in the Hawaii and the US.  Check it out and let me know what you think?

               https://youtu.be/QhQQJTOY8jA?t=30

And if you know anyone that has a good story to tell about their business please ask them to contact me.  Would love to see if there is a fit to have them on the Show.

Business in Hawaii with Reg Baker - Very Busy World of Senator Green

Aloha –

Senator Green is a busy guy!  And if (correction - when) he wins the next Lieutenant Governors election he will be busier than ever!  Such a down to earth and articulate guy.

And if you would like to see past Business in Hawaii shows, click on the library link below for over 100 past broadcasts.

Headed to Washington DC late next week for the annual US Small Business Administration (SBA) Board of Directors meeting for Regulatory Fairness.  I will be making congressional testimony on two separate issues (representing the four Liquor Commissions in Hawaii and the Jones Act).  As chair of the Region IX (southwestern states), I will also be coordinating a break out session for prioritizing issues to address for the Region and reporting back to the full Board.  Should be a very busy Board meeting!

I am launching a CFO service that allows any SMB (Small Mid-Sized Business) to afford a top notch and experienced CFO to assist with managing and growing their business.
These highly qualified CFO’s serve as business navigators and work on a “as needed” basis and priced accordingly.  Starting at just a few hundred dollars a month you can get the financial talent of large companies.  We can also train and coach your in-house CFO and help them reach a higher level of performance.

Please take a look at www.cfonav.com and let me know what you think.
